All the components of the Aerocene Explorer are contained in one backpack for easy portability.

First, open the Explorer backpack and familiarise yourself with its contents.

If you are not launching from a light-coloured ground (like a white-sand beach), it is a good idea to spread a white tarp on the ground to increase its albedo. Launching from a light-coloured surface reflects the intensity of the Sun's rays on the Explorer sculpture, resulting in greater buoyancy.

The Explorer sculpture floats without using any helium, hydrogen, or other gasses. Instead, the kinetic energy of running with the sculpture fills it with air.

After the Explorer sculpture has filled with air, quickly seal the Velcro closure to keep the air inside.

Wait as the air inside the Explorer sculpture gradually becomes heated by the Sun.

As the inside air is warmed, it expands, inflating the Explorer sculpture to its full capacity.

When the air inside the Explorer becomes warmer than the air outside, it will slowly lift into the sky.

Attach the tether and the sensing devices pack to the Explorer sculpture.

As the Explorer is a completely open-source tool for exploration, think about what you would like to further Explore in the air. Then hack the sensing devices pack, and build your own sensors!

AEROSOLAR LIFT

The Aerocene Backpack and its entailed aerosolar sculpture becomes airborne using only the powers of air and sunlight. Openly accessible to anyone, the process of launching an aerosolar sculpture into the sky is an unforgettable way to experience the Aerocene epoch.

Unlike most airborne vessels, the Aerocene Backpack releases zero carbon emissions and uses zero fossil fuels. Aerocene is the future of air travel and habitation, utilising natural resources more sustainably.

All tethered flights and other activities conducted with the Aerocene Backpack included envelope and Museo Aero Solar -either self built or borrowed, will be at your sole risk and responsibility. Read more about safety below.

LAUNCHING TIPS

INFLATING AND DEFLATING AEROSOLAR SCULPTURES

ANCHORING THE TETHER

Make sure to anchor the tether to something heavy on the ground, to reduce the chance of the aerosolar sculpture slipping out of your grasp. Here is how to tie the knot:

SAFETY

Safety is a value of vital importance and that is why at all times of aerosolar flight there must be extreme care and attention in order to protect the life, physical integrity and health of the people participating and others in the activities environment.

STOP Policy

Any person involved in the aerosolar flight launch procedure will have the authority to intervene, in case of observing a deviation or risk situation that compromises the security of the activities. In case of detecting such a situation make sure to say STOP! loud and clear and explain the risk observed.

Security Precautions

Keeping our fossil fuels free flight activity on the safe side for all, is of uttmost importance. Please read and understand this security precautions if you are to fly soon.

  1. The Aerocene Backpack will be flown by a team of minimum 3 persons, flying with a smaller team than this is strictly forbidden
  2. The Aerocene Backpack will be flown with a maximum local wind speed of 10km per hour. Attempting to fly the backpack in weather conditions with higher winds, or rain, is strictly forbidden.
  3. The Aerocene Backpack must be tethered at all times. The advised knot for the tether can be viewed on this page and inside the kit’s printed materials. It is strictly forbidden to release the Aerocene Backpack for free flight.
  4. In order to prevent hand injuries, leather gloves must be worn at all times when flying the Aerocene Backpack.
  5. Do not increase the flying altitude of the Aerocene Backpack by extending or exchanging the tether.
  6. Do not fly the Aerocene Backpack near overhead power lines, during storms or thunderstorms, or above other people, animals, streets, train tracks or bicycle lanes.
  7. Stay clear of trees and buildings when flying the Aerocene Backpack.
  8. Do not let children fly the Aerocene Backpack alone. Only hand over the tether to a minor if you are sure he or she can handle the Aerocene Backpack safely.
  9. Never let the Aerocene Backpack fly unattended.
  10. Always be considerate of others when flying the Aerocene Backpack.
