Sofia Lemos

Sofia Lemos is Curator of Public Programmes and Research at Nottingham Contemporary and Associate Curator Public Programmes at Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art (RIBOCA 2). From 2017, she leads the multi-platform assembly for visual and performing arts research METABOLIC RIFTS, with Alexandra Balona. Lemos is former associate curator at Galeria Municipal do Porto where her projects included new commissions to Caroline Mesquita (with Kunsthalle Lissabon, 2018-2019) and Musa paradisiaca (2018). She has been involved in the research and coordination of exhibitions, public programmes, and publications in various institutions, including Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin; Contour Biennale of Moving Image 8; Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires; NTU CCA Singapore; PRAXES, Berlin; DRAF, London; and MACBA, Barcelona. Between 2015-2017, Lemos was research coordinator at Studio Tomás Saraceno, Berlin, and from 2013-2017 she was editorial assistant at Drawing Room Confessions. Lemos is a regular contributor to Art Agenda and Contemporanea, and has written on contemporary art and culture in publications such as vdrome, …ment, and Volume, among others. She recently co-edited the reader METABOLIC RIFTS (Atlas Projectos, 2019), and a monograph Musa paradisiaca: Views on Misunderstanding (Bom Dia Books, 2018). She partook in the Synapse Curators’ Network 2015 at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, and has been shortlisted for the 2019 edition of the Lorenzo Bonaldi Art Prize for young curators.

Fly with Aerocene Pacha helped us to re-imagine the way in which we move, and how we might move differently in the future. It connected many communities through a common goal, while raising voices in unison against harmful lithium extraction practices in northern Argentina.
