EXPERIENCE SUN-POWERED LIFT

ONLY A FEW HUMANS HAVE EVER FLOWN IN AEROSOLAR VEHICLES

BE AMONG THE FIRST TO SIGN UP AND GET A CHANCE TO WIN AN AEROSOLAR FLIGHT

The Aerocene D-O AEC air-fuelled sculpture already successfully carried passengers without any use of propane for nearly three hours. This recent launch at the White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, USA witnessed artist Tomás Saraceno achieving the World Record for the first, and the longest, purely solar-powered, certified, lighter-than-air tethered flight.

The world’s first fully-powered aerosolar vehicle has completed its maiden tether flight atop the sandy dunes of White Sands, in New Mexico. On November 8, 2015, Tomás Saraceno’s fully and solely solar-powered certified lighter than air vehicle “D-O AEC Aerocene” lifted up seven passengers without ANY use of propane for approx. 2 hours and 15 minutes, establishing therefore new worldwide records, and discerning itself from all other certified solar crafts that exist. Normally a flight with a pilot and a passenger would use, for the same journey, 324 liters fuel; a solar balloon would use 27 liters; D-O AEC Aerocene used 0 during the entire time of the flight, inflation included. Although there have been other solar vessels in the past, this is the first certified to carry passengers which succeeded to float safely without burning any kind of propane.

Every aeroscenic balloon flight is a humble step toward weaning off mined deposits and extinguishing the human and ecological impacts of a world engineered around hydrocarbon extraction.

A Multi-step Journey

The anticipated steps of Aerocene propose the longest 0-fuel flight around the world to change the world, from the Anthropocene to Aerocene, powered only by the heat of the Sun and infrared radiation from the surface of Earth. Being sculptures with research potential, they contribute to the ongoing dialogue between art and science and posits a new way to collect data, distribute information and translate scientific research through an artistic form. Therefore, Saraceno has been collaborating with different space agencies, institutions, experts and collectives from several fields of knowledge.

What Is #FlightSharing?

As Marshall McLuhan said in the 1960s, “there are no passengers in the Spaceship Earth. We are all crew”.

#Flysharing is a new frontier in the experience of flight. It’s a new unique experience, available for everybody. Aerocene artistic experiments and flight gathering require tight collaboration and working side-by-side effort, That is why it brings a perfect social occasion to share a solar flight with your friends.

Becoming a Pilot

If you are interested in becoming a pilot of Aerocene please let us know by writing an email. We are collecting a critical mass of potential participants and we will let you know the time of the next introduction course, as well as the place. Detailed information will reach you by email.
